How to care for a parrot
Kopīgot
Parrots and parakeets are not only beautiful birds, but also incredibly intelligent and talented. To make sure your parakeet is not only happy but also has all its needs met, it is important to take proper care of it.
Parrot care
We share 5 steps that will make it easier to become familiar with the basic needs of a parrot.
1. Spacious cage
It is very important that the parrot can freely and widely spread its wings and perform minimal flight maneuvers while in the cage. It is also very important that the cage has horizontal bars so that the bird can climb them confidently and comfortably. Such climbing frames are not only great entertainment for the parrot, but also physical activity.
We encourage you to choose a larger cage so that your parrot can feel as comfortable as possible.
2. Activities and games
Parrots are very curious. If your parrot grows up alone, then it is especially important to keep it busy as much as possible so that it does not feel so lonely. A mirror with a hanger and a constantly visible reflection of itself will not let your bird be sad and feel alone. Hanging swings and playgrounds are also very popular, which not only keep it busy, but also develop and stimulate the bird's mind.
Do not leave your bird bored, this can lead to serious health problems.
3. Balanced diet
Although various seed mixtures may seem like a perfectly balanced food, it is not enough to provide a complete diet for a parrot. It is very important to include vegetables (carrots, lettuce) and fruits (apples, pears). It is also necessary to change the water daily, as parrots are extremely sensitive to dirty water.
There are products that should be avoided: avocado, onions, garlic, chocolate.
4. Peace at night
Parrots usually sleep 10-12 hours a day and value quality rest. In the evening, we recommend covering the parrot's cage with a light, breathable material so that the bird can better relax, calm down and fall asleep in the dark.
So it's better to place the cage in a quieter area of the house, away from the TV or kitchen.
5. Attention and communication
Parrots love to communicate, both with other parrots and with humans. Once they get used to their owner's voice, they respond to speech, whistling, and may even try to repeat frequently heard phrases. Try to talk to your bird every day, sit next to it, and let it feel loved and not alone.
Lack of attention can cause sadness or even depression in a parrot.
We hope these steps have helped you better understand your parrot's needs!
